The NY State Legislative Fellowship was with Senator Liz Krueger (D-NY), Finance Chair for the 2019 legislative session in Albany, NY. The fellowship trained me to embrace the role and subsequent responsibilities of a Legislative Director. I engaged with environmental and other public policy research, drafted bill summaries, researched bill ideas, tracked budget requests, facilitated the legislative process for the Legislative Director and the Senator, assisted with budget hearings and represented the office. Various research and environmental policy analysis during the fellowship included some of the following: mitigating climate change, reducing CO2 emissions, divesting from fossil fuel investments, waste management including Styrofoam and disposable cigarettes.Research on other issues included: corporate accountability and tax incentives, consumer protections with electric utility service companies (ESCOs), confessions of judgment and NYC Marshall program, voter rights including ranked choice voting, sex offender risk assessment tools and more.
