About Amy Liu
I discovered my passion for computational chemistry after joining the Radhakrishnan Lab at Wellesley College which utilizes computational tools to study electrostatic interactions between drug molecules and their targets. On the chemistry side, learning and thinking about models for molecular interaction, their strengths and weaknesses, and the trade-off between computational cost and accuracy was intellectually rewarding for me. As for the computational side, I enjoyed exploring data structures and algorithms for efficiently solving problems I encountered during my research. I am looking forward to applying my curiosity and passion for learning in a research position. Please check out my personal website and Github for more information:https://sites.google.com/view/amyliuhttps://github.com/Aliu9742

Research Technologist
Current
Thesis Student In The Radhakrishnan Lab
My thesis project focused on increasing the bactericidal potency of the antimicrobial peptide Buforin-II, and my goal was to identify a neutral residue on the peptide to substitute for the positively-charged residue arginine. I performed charge optimization calculations on snapshots of molecular dynamics simulations to see which residue, upon gaining a.
Science Center Student Administrator
I assisted STEM faculty with various tasks in a timely manner. These tasks include making copies, scanning files, delivering mail, creating name tents, designing spam, and assisting with printer issues.I noticed that some tasks were being completed multiple times because of a lack of communication between administrators on different shifts, wasting time.
Science Center Summer Research Assistant In The Elmore Lab
To investigate the effect of crowders on the configuration of polylysine, I set up explicit-solvent Molecular Dynamics Simulations using GROMACS, and analyzed the RMSD fluctuations of each amino acid as well as the number of H-bonds the peptide formed with surrounding molecules over the course of the simulation. Due to being remote, I stayed on track of.
Undergraduate Research Assistant Under Professor Adrian Huang
Because pyrazole rings occur often in drug molecules, developing a regioselective synthesis of pyrazoles through N-alkylation is of interest. The goal of the project is to understand how the presence of substituents impact the structure of pyrazole rings, particularly its bond lengths and bond angles. Crystallogrpahic structural data are gathered through.
Botanical Garden Horticultural Assistant
My main role at the Wellesley Botanic Garden was identifying and removing invasive plants especially at their early stages to reduce the use of herbicide and protect the biodiversity on the campus. Additionally, I performed outreach work by giving fifteen-minute tours of the Edible Ecosystem Garden to the campus community to inspire interest in native.
Wellesley Hive Intern: Cheminformatics Learning Material Development
I collaborated with another intern to learn about cheminformatics and CAS Common Chemistry (including accessing it through api) in development of learning materials targeted at high school and early undergraduate students. Students will follow a google document for an introductory activity, followed by a coding activity in a google colab notebook. As.
Wellesley Hive Intern: Environmental Transformation Product Literature Review
Environmental pollutants such as pesticides, pharmaceuticals, or flame retardants can react through many pathways to form transformation products that are more persistent or toxic than their precursors. I performed a literature review on the current methods and tools used to identify these transformation products. The results of the literature review are.
Research Intern
Performed western blots from start to finish from the gel electrophoresis separation of proteins in patient blood samples, to electrophoretic transfer, to immunostaining, producing publication-quality figures through close attention to details such as the delivery of accurate liquid volumes using micropipettes
