I am CARB’s first Public Information Officer who works exclusively on public education and outreach, as well as media relations, for prescribed burns and wildfire smoke. I work closely with our federal, state and regional/local partners, as well as key stakeholders, on inter-agency communications and public outreach. I am currently the Communications Lead for several high-profile projects at CARB including:• Smoke Ready California, a web & social media campaign designed to teach people how to prepare for and protect themselves from smoke.• California Smoke Spotter, CARB’s first mobile app. The app combines the latest fire mapping and smoke forecasting technology to provide users with current information on prescribed fires, wildfires, air quality and potential smoke impacts.• AB 836: Clean Air Centers, a pilot program that provides $5 million in funding through a grant program to upgrade ventilation systems and provide portable air cleaners to create a statewide network of Clean Air Centers in vulnerable communities.

Acted as public spokesperson, Communications lead and website manager for the Commission. Planned, wrote, edited, and prepared informational material for both internal and external audiences. Researched, wrote, edited and disseminated reports, press releases, talking points, fact sheets and official correspondence. Maintained positive, professional relationships with staff, Commissioners, state and federal government partners, regional agencies, stakeholders, media and the public. • Collaborated with subject-matter experts to clearly communicate complex program information and Commission efforts in plain language to the media, stakeholders and the public.• Worked with media contacts to pitch stories, field inquiries, craft responses and set up interviews with executive staff and Commissioners.• Coordinated public speaking engagements for the Executive Director and prepared messaging, speaking points and speeches accordingly.• Helped develop, write and copy-edit the Commission’s 2018 Annual Report to the Legislature.• Managed project to implement a new content management system, and redesign Commission website and its content to adhere to new Accessibility standards.• Supervised two student assistants. Developed duty statements, conducted interviews, and made hiring decisions for both positions.

Helped oversee consultants in Sacramento, San Jose and San Francisco to coordinate, plan and execute an extensive public outreach campaign to stakeholders impacted by the project. • Worked closely and cooperatively with partner agencies including the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA), Caltrans, California Highway Patrol, Caltrain, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) and the San Jose Department of Transportation.• Managed the Authority’s Interpretation and Translation Services contract.
