Over twenty years ago, I joined Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. (WSSI) as a summer intern, loved the job, and was then hired to work full time in the field as an Environmental Scientist – getting my boots muddy - literally.As an Environmental Scientist, I gained valuable technical experience in many aspects of natural and cultural resources consulting, including:• Wetland delineation• Natural and cultural resource inventories• Stream assessments• Endangered and threatened species habitat evaluations• State and Federal (Clean Water Act) wetland permits• Land planning• Various technical reports for both private and public sector clientsMost importantly, I worked closely with regulators, landowners, clients, and partners to ensure that the work was conducted in a thorough and timely manner to complete all project goals. My technical background and many years working in the field has enabled me to fully understand the natural resources consulting business and ultimately shift gears towards growing our business at WSSI. My current position as Market Manager requires the preparation of technical and cost proposals for the full range of services provided by WSSI. Overall, I am passionate about serving our clients and providing them with the unparalleled natural and cultural resource consulting services that they have come to expect. In this role, I worked primarily in the field at our wetland mitigation sites performing invasive species management tasks, mitigation monitoring, planting native vegetation, and establishing our native plant nursery as well as with our Environmental Scientists assisting with wetland delineation investigations and studies. However, portions of my internship included rotations through all the departments at WSSI to get a feel for how engineers, scientists, surveyors, archeologists, and GIS professionals work together effectively and efficiently.
