Legislative AdvocatePlatinum Advisors Nov 2014 - Sep 2018Sacramento, CaliforniaAs a lobbyist for Platinum Advisors I was pleased to represent a diverse client portfolio that included local governments, energy finance, consumer product manufacturers and the cannabis industry. As senior policy director to the California Cannabis Industry Association (CCIA), I spearheaded policy and legislation for the legal cannabis industry, including Proposition 64 and the Medicinal and Adult Use Cannabis Regulation and Safety Act (MAUCRSA). I also successfully advanced legislation to establish safety standards for cannabis manufacturers, waive costly tax payment penalties for licensed cannabis business, expand the types of locations where temporary cannabis event may occur, and create a provisional license program to ensure that licensed cannabis business may continue to legally operate while their annual license applications are pending state and local approve. In 2015, I founed Cannabis Caucus, comprised of 10 lobbying firms with cannabis-related clients to better organize and represent the industry. I also co-founded the Cannabis Business Coalition, leveraging key statewide, business associations to help advance critical business-related priorities. As advocate for Ygrene Energy Fund, one of the nation’s largest Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) financing providers of residential, commercial and multifamily properties, I helped craft a series of bills to create the most comprehensive consumer protections for homeowners who choose to use PACE as a financing solution, sponsored by local governments, to address important energy and water-conservation home improvement needs.
