Amy O’Keefe is the Director of Northwestern University's Master of Science in Engineering Design Innovation (EDI) program. She teaches studio-based Design Innovation courses in the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Sciences in the Segal Design Certificate program (UG), EDI (MS), and Kellogg and McCormick’s dual degree MMM (MBA/MS)program.POVTeaching, leading the MS in Engineering Design Innovation program, and in professional practice, I consistently design, build and nurture inclusive and dynamic design innovation communities; enable and amplify emerging design voices and practitioners; and work with students and partners to embrace emerging technologies and design first of a kind services, interventions, and integrated products that benefit diverse sets of stakeholders in complex ecosystems. I believe in the power of collaborative design to address emerging challenges and I embrace my role developing design innovation talent capable of leveraging engineering disciplines and technical expertise in stakeholder-centered contexts while conscious of the impact their work has on people and the planet. BIOProfessor O’Keefe teaches Service Design Studios, Design Communications, Design Thinking and Communication (DTC), and Business Innovation Labs (BIL). She frequently partners with service-based and social impact organizations, consumer technology companies, and physicians and healthcare organizations to bring a stakeholder-centered approach to addressing complex issues. Recent studio collaborations include design projects with Lurie Children’s Hospital, Northwestern Medicine, Microsoft, and Southwest Airlines. Amy has consulted on service, experience, and integrated multi-channel initiatives for Fortune 50 retail and global Am Law 100 clients. Her professional background includes more than a decade leading multi-disciplinary service, product design, and development at a Chicago-based tech startup acquired by Thomson Reuters. Amy received her undergraduate degree from Davidson College, studied Architecture in Florence, Italy, and completed her MS in Product Design and Development Management The McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Northwestern University. She has founded and actively leads communities of design innovation faculty working collaboratively to connect students, practice, and practical applications of design innovation as a discipline.
