As an active leader in the Communications office, I implemented and managed the growing Government Affairs program to support policy researchers and experts in their policy engagement. We grew from a "team of me" to three professional staff as our support services were increasingly requested. Together, we created and facilitated opportunities for experts to share knowledge with policymakers via Congressional testimony, briefings and meetings with elected officials or government staff, and integrated communications strategies. We also supported the creation of ancillary materials for these engagements, including memos, talking points, etc. I also stood up and oversaw a targeted email marketing program to share policy insights with an expanded network of stakeholders and policymakers around the country. This team regularly created actionable, accessible communications to changemakers on policy topics ranging from healthcare, to workforce, to childcare, to effective program implementation. Promoted from Senior Manager to Director Jan 2019.

During the tenure of two different Chairman, I was a Policy Advisor (Labor) on issues related to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). This included monitoring and analyzing regulations, budgets, implementation, and legislative actions while producing reports and recommendations for the Chairman and Committee members. I regularly staffed hearings and creating briefing opportunities for staff and members. I actively collaborated with Congressional partners and stakeholders as the ACA came online for consumers, analyzing proposed legislative challenges to and regulatory implementation of the new health law. Our team's leadership tapped me to manage the FLSA policy portfolio amid the Committee’s efforts to support of new overtime regulations while continuing efforts to advocate for raising the federal minimum wage; I quickly mastered the topic area to lead collaborative amplification efforts across the Committee and caucus.

As part of the community affairs and outreach team in a Congressional district office in Northern California, I spearheaded efforts to engaging stakeholders in healthcare related policy by coordinating events and expanding casework operations to respond to constituent inquires. In this role I also regularly advised the Congressman and Committee policy staff on local trends and issues related to ACA implementation.

As the Press Secretary in a Congressional office, I helped position the Congressman as leader on complex policy issues by planning and executing press strategy: writing and editing press releases, advisories, op-eds and background information; preparing the Congressman for public appearances and interviews; and writing or editing talking points and remarks and providing background information. I also managed all of the Congressman’s online and digital communications, including social media, telephone town halls, and the Congressman’s official website. In addition, as a Legislative Assistant, I also proactively monitored and analyzed legislative issue areas including health care, LGBT and women’s rights, USPS, and the census to make policy recommendations and brief Congressman with regard to votes, committee work, and district-related feedback.

Working with the City of Vacaville’s Public Information Officer, I assisted in managing the City’s website, cable channel and employee intranet, frequently authoring and updating city website content, intranet announcements, and creating forms for the City’s website. In addition, I worked closely with the Economic Development Manager and Assistant City Manager on a variety of special projects and events, including assisting with city-wide public events and public “roundtable” advisory meetings.
