Licensed Attorney from South Africa with a Master's Degree in Animal Law and over 13 years of professional legal experience. I am a co-founder & Acting Executive Director of Animal Law Reform South Africa. I am a Lecturer, Research Associate & LLD Candidate at the University of Johannesburg. I am a Senior Adjunct Lecturer at the University of the Western Cape and a Visiting Instructor at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University, College of Law.I am passionate about the attainment and intersection of the rights of animals, humans & Nature. My research focuses on law and policy relating to animal rights and welfare, human rights, corporate accountability, social justice and Nature.I studied my BCom & LLB Degrees at the University of Johannesburg. I then practiced Corporate and Commercial Law for nearly seven years in South Africa, working on a number of key matters for large clients, including domestic, cross border and multi-billion dollar transactions. I have worked at Africa's largest law firm, ENS Africa, as well as international law firm, Hogan Lovells. In 2017, I co-founded the first Animal Law non-profit in South Africa. Later in the same year, I moved to the USA to undertake my Masters (LLM) in Animal Law at Lewis & Clark Law School during which time I worked both for the Center for Animal Law Studies as a Research Assistant and interned for Animal Legal Defense Fund. Upon graduation of my LLM in 2018, I worked with World Animal Protection, Animal Equality and the Center for Animal Law Studies on a consultancy basis. I then worked as the Aquatic Animal Law Initiative Fellow and assisted with the Animal Law Clinic at the Center for Animal Law Studies at Lewis & Clark Law School for two years. I have also worked as the Brooks Institute for Animal Rights Law & Policy Fellow at UCLA's Animal Law & Policy Program.In 2021 I was appointed as a South African Independent Expert with the United Nations in Harmony with Nature Programme. I am a founding member of the steering committee of the African Hub of the Global Alliance for the Rights of Nature. In 2022 and 2023 I co-lectured the first Animal Law course in South Africa.I co-founded an African wide Animal Law non-profit, Lawyers for Animal Protection in Africa (LAPA) and I am the Southern African Representative for the African Network for Animal Welfare (ANAW).I am working on exciting writing and research projects in South Africa and beyond including co-authoring a book on Aquatic Animal Law and co-editing the first book on Animal Law in Africa.
