Assistant ScientistScience Museum Of Minnesota Dec 2019 - PresentSt. Croix Watershed Research StationI run a brand-new sediment core incubation laboratory at the St. Croix Watershed Research Station for the study of "internal phosphorus loading" to lakes in Minnesota and around the world. When the deep water and sediments of lakes lose their oxygen (which occurs because of decomposition of dead algae), previously buried phosphorus (P) is released. This powerful nutrient then mixes with lake surface water and feeds more algae growth. We measure the maximum potential for lake sediment P release by "incubating" small sediment cores in the laboratory. this lake-specific information helps lake associations, watershed districts, and other stakeholders understand and manage lake health.I am also assisting SCWRS with development and implementation of an expanded outreach program to the general public, watershed managers, Tribes, agencies, and environmental engineering firms. In the future I hope to identify funding to support the Museum's equity and inclusion goals through the environmental research of the Station, and to assist with the Museum's evaluation activities. -
