I spent one wonderful term with the Adult Foster Home Licensing unit and learned an amazing amount, both about the work and the organization. I learned the Oregon Administrative Rules pertaining to AFHs, performed unannounced monitoring visits to AFHs and providers, and purged files.

I had the privilege of experiencing two terms of practicum at this facility as a student. During the first term, I worked within the Activity Department, developing and facilitating new activities based on the interest and abilities of specific residents. I acted as the Assistant Volunteer Coordinator during my second term there; creating job descriptions for volunteer opportunities, as well as developing a new system for connecting potential volunteers with opportunities.

I worked with Employment Resources Northwest as a practicum student for two terms. This program contracts with DHS to provide job readiness and general life skills training to TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) recipients. During this time I learned and then facilitated group trainings. I developed and facilitated a new training activity which was approved by management and added to the existing curriculum. I also learned case management skills, which includes knowledge of how to use the TRACS system.
