No matter which of my businesses I’m working on, every day I get to give life to ideas and help people with their business dreams.When I created Black Owl Design, I wanted to focus on helping guide my clients in the right direction to achieve what they want in their business. Going out on your own can be very daunting and not knowing where to start can make that worse! Watching a business owner get so excited as they see their brand come to life is an amazing experience, and one that I’m lucky to have as part of my “day job”.After the success of Black Owl Design, I wanted to do something to give back to our community – so a friend and I started Rocket Network, an organisation dedicated to helping professional women improve their skills and reach their goals. My latest venture is Scribbled Ink Stationery – which is a stationery line that helps people in their professional and personal lives to better manage their time, overcome procrastination – and look damned good as they do it!With my 10+ years in the design industry, I’m very proud of what I’ve achieved so far, and there is so much more that I’m looking forward to doing. As Scribbled Ink continues to grow in popularity, I’m also focused on expanding Black Owl Design into other regions. I love what I’ve created with Black Owl – and I’m excited about offering our unique mix of dangerously creative design, consistent client care and 100% honesty to the rest of Queensland.

It has been an amazing learning experience! In the beginning, I would say yes to everyone that called wanting help. Over the years, we’ve honed in on what we are exceptionally good at – and now we focus on those services, rather than offering everything except the kitchen sink.

After trying out a lot of different time and project management solutions, I found that most of what was available was so generic – it wasn’t really useful for anyone. That’s when I came up with the idea of creating targeted collections – stationery items that would help people get organised, achieve what they want and stay focused in a way that made sense to them. We currently have three collections – Creatives, Business and Home – with plenty more to come!

Senior Graphic DesignerPivot Design Feb 2010 - Sep 2011Feilding, New ZealandThis was also an excellent learning environment for me, and it’s where I picked up my love creating logos and brand identities for clients. This involved liaising with livestock farmers across New Zealand to create their sale catalogues, farm branding, signage and promotional material for the annual livestock expos. Taking a brief from a client is more than just talking about colours and fonts – it’s about understanding what their business is about, and how they want that business to be represented – and then bringing that to life with design! A large part of my role at Pivot also was managing the 140+ page yearly Hereford magazine – Cattle Breed.
