The Young Professionals Congress is jointly organized by the Young Members Group of the American Nuclear Society and the North American Young Generation in Nuclear to provide a forum for young professionals from across the nuclear industry to come together to discuss the challenges facing the next generation of nuclear professionals. Within this venue, young professionals have the opportunity to develop non-technical professional skills, network among their peers and explore the roles and functions of industry organizations, such as ANS and NA-YGN. The 2009 YPC, "Working Outside of the Box: Understanding Ourselves as Instruments of Change," is its first as an embedded topical during the ANS Annual Winter Meeting. As of May 2008, became Past President of NA-YGN. The mission of NA-YGN is to unite young professionals who believe in nuclear science and technology and are working together throughout North America to share their passion for a field that is alive and kicking!During her tenure as NA-YGN President, she facilitated and implemented the 2007-2008 NA-YGN Strategic Plan and submitted a NA-YGN End of Year Report, which documented the results in achieving the non-profit organization's strategy. Results led to:-A net growth of 24% of its membership-In 2007, NA-YGN Local Chapters contributed 33,529 hours to professional development and public information activities-Divided the NA-YGN organization into multiple regions to develop leadership opportunities, improve national and local support, as well as more localized networking opportunities-Additional communication tools to support public outreach and advocacy on behalf of nuclear and conservation-Strong presence at multiple new nuclear plant hearings-1st of a kind event nuclear industry career recruiting event at University of South Carolina-Two benchmarking studies to collect the voice of the young professional in regards to professional development and their careers
