About Amy Spaziani

I read ancient history and apply it to modern problems. In grade school I had three favorites: science, history, and art. As a geologist, I found an opportunity to integrate these into one profession. I read rocks and subsurface data: mud/petrophysical/well logs, seismic, outcrops, core, cuttings, completion, production, and fluids. I integrate these data to develop historical views of the Earth and resource (petroleum) accumulations. Through analysis of the whole petroleum system, I develop prospects and sell, drill, and produce them. The ability to be creative in a technical role and tell a story has been essential to my success in a variety of roles in the oil and gas industry and as a geoscientist. Data assimilation, versatility, and flexibility have been key in my diverse experience in exploration, development, production, and operations. In my career as a geologist, I’ve developed prospects in multiple basins and many different play concepts. I’ve drilled horizontal wells, vertical wells, s-shaped, J-shaped, injectors, producers, conventional and unconventional wells. I’ve developed chronostratigraphy charts for entire basins and 300+ well development programs. I’m addicted to making maps, petrophysical calculations, creating workflows, and watching a well “come in”. I love to push new opportunities, ideas and efficiencies. My activities in my spare time reflect my right brain/left brain tendencies. I like to bake (great mix of science and art), am a Roadside Geology junkie (I’ll turn any trip into a field trip), and love raising my three boys (add circus management to my list of skills). I also enjoy volunteering in schools and outreach programs with geologic activities. I love meeting new people and hearing their stories and perspectives. Reach out to me if you would like to chat about geology, the oil field or the perfect cake.

  • Bp
    Geologist
    Bp Oct 2012 - Mar 2015
    Houston, Texas Area
Worked on mega-regional exploration, pre-screen, and access phase projects in the South Atlantic, primarily offshore Brazil. - Developed chronostratigraphy charts for two major basins offshore Brazil from pre-rift to recent. Interpreted and presented hero lines for basins offshore Brazil, including structural elements and significant major horizons (e.g. source). - Developed gross depositional environment maps for two major basins offshore Brazil, at major intervals of source, reservoir, and seal deposition in pre-rift to Cenozoic environments. - Developed play fairway illustrations and prospect inventories for major reservoir units and ranked plays according to risk, viability, and return. - Interpreted structural elements across the South Atlantic (Brazil, West Africa) and developed structural element maps for use in overlays. Specialties: ♦ Geologic Mapping♦ Depositional Systems♦ Basin Analysis♦ Log Analysis♦ Seismic Interpretation♦ Sequence Stratigraphy♦ Prospect Generation♦ Well Data Analysis♦ Geomorphological Assessment♦ Rift Geology♦ Shelf Geology♦ Deep Water Environments♦ ArcGIS/Premiere Power Tools♦ Powerview♦ Stratworks♦ Canvas♦ Microsoft Word/Excel/Powerpoint
  • Bp
    Geologist
    Bp Jun 2010 - Oct 2012
    Houston, Texas Area
Lead operations geologist for horizontal drilling program in tight sands onshore East Texas. Also provided support in development field studies and recompletions of existing producers. - Drilled and geosteered 14 wells in Cotton Valley sands and Haynesville shale as part of an unconventional development program. - Developed a methodology for geosteering in small target zones to facilitate completion techniques by calculating points/windows, integrated with geologic models, for drillers to hit. This increased landing and drilling wells in target zones to 100% and increased the hydraulic fracture efficiency. - Developed a comprehensive overburden description by correlating well logs and creating maps of each formation used for input to the geologic model used for planning and steering wells. Created descriptions for formations to be used for no drilling surprises for the planning of each well. This kept no productive time to less than 20%, the lowest for NPT percentage in onshore North American Gas at the time. - Developed and documented a work flow for planning, executing, reviewing and incorporating results of wells for new operations geologists that increased efficiency of handovers and facilitated learning. Specialties: ♦ Project Management♦ Geologic Mapping♦ Horizontal Drilling♦ Geosteering♦ Depositional Systems♦ Log Analysis♦ Sequence Stratigraphy♦ Well Data Analysis♦ Field Development♦ Shelf Geology♦ Deltaic Geology♦ Fluvial Geology♦ Stratworks♦ TerraVu♦ Microsoft Word/Excel/Powerpoint♦ Mentoring
