Experience and Background info from the person who polishes words:I've been married to my best friend for twenty years. I'm a homeschool mom of three independent children who are insatiably curious, driven self-learners, and who bring greater purpose and happiness to my life. They are also adept in the arts of patience-testing and negotiating. Being an involved mom is no small feat. In short, I have 16 unpaid years of experience as a chief manager in the raising-future-contributing-adults industry. Before adding to the population, I worked as a school teacher for seven years and even enjoyed a season of coaching soccer. I've had a myriad of jobs prior to college, during, and after; braving the fast food industry, modeling for a department store, secretary to the chief of avionics (civilian job with the Air Force), SABC and CPR instructor, hardware store, retail, and even private tutoring to name a few. The cumulative effect of these employments helped me gain a greater perspective in general, an appreciation for people, and the skills to work well with various personalities, which in turn gave me opportunities to hone my communication and teamwork abilities.Education and creative writing have always been my passions! Since venturing into the realm of homeschool with my kiddo sidekicks, I have rekindled my relationship with wordsmithing. I've published a few short pieces via the Dribble Drabble Review, Cafelit U.K., and Friday Flash Fiction. In September of 2022, my short story “Hide and Go Seek” won third place in an international short story competition and was published in print by Free Spirit Publishing.I have recently learned that editing is another skill I enjoy. I assisted the Dribble Drabble Review in selecting work from their pile of submissions to be considered for publication in their online literary magazine. I've also revised the content and grammar for an author of one novel and am currently working through the same process with his sequel. I've not been trained in a traditional way as far as editing is concerned, but I have a keen eye for redundancy, grammar, and the meaningful flow of content. I'm dependable and hard-working.   Before WordShine was created, my work and experience in this field were listed under my personal name, Amy L.Specker. Writing Experience from August 2020 to Present:Written and published short stories via the Dribble Drabble Review, Cafelit U.K., Reedsy, and Friday Flash Fiction.Conceptualized and designed digital as well as printable posters and flyers for keynote speakers in the tri-state area of Southern IL, KY, and TN who needed their main ideas highlighted creatively for social media platforms.Content and Grammar edited a novel and its sequel as well as other work for various authors in Southern Illinois. Served as a Reader for the Dribble Drabble Review by assisting the owner of this international online literary journal in selecting meaningful stories/poems for publication. In September of 2022, my short story "Hide and Go Seek" won third place in an international short story contest and was published in print by Free Spirit Publishing.*Before the Writing Industry, I was a Certified Educator (still am) working in schools from Aug 2004 to Feb 2011.I taught 5th/6th grade and coached JV girls soccer. While serving in this capacity, I had the pleasure of teaching every subject and serving as a title 1 tutor via grant money from the state. I gained a lot of problem-solving, thinking-on-my-feet, and diffusing-difficult-situation skills while working here. I collaborated with teachers in my grade as we planned lessons/activities/field trips and how to handle challenging kids. We were always underfunded. Our Mottos were: "We do more with less." AND "They won't care how much you know until they know how much you care."I left this job on very good terms with my co-workers and superiors! I had a difficult pregnancy with my twins who were born on 2-15-11 and I needed to be home with them. They were premature and each of them was in and out of the hospital for the first two months of their little lives, but they have persevered beautifully.
