Active Board Member Quick Pitch 2016/2017 Chair

Chairperson of the Tech Coast Angels Quick Pitch Competition in 2016 and 2017. This volunteer position required identifying sponsorship, screening startup companies to participate in the competition and coordinating the event of ten Finalists, a panel of judges and 500 attendees. In my position I developed a template and format for the event, creating branding and standards for the event to make it easier for the incoming role to streamline the process of running a large event. Dedicating eight months of full-time work to revamp the event it now has a distinctive fingerprint with recognizable branding and a format the consistently fills the Qualcomm auditorium each year. Accent Presentations was a local service bureau providing 35mm slide design and production, film processing and slide duplication, digital printing, large format display design and production, media storage and graphic design services. And, in addition to providing local services the company built a thriving mail order business for the production of 35mm slides from a storage disks and electronic upload.Accent Presentations began with three employees and in the course of seven years grew to 35 employees operating with two shifts to meet the digital demand, growing 100+% year over year. Accent was first to market in digital color printing using Canon color copiers and a beta tester and customer to Encad. Testing their large format digital inkjet plotters to produce signage and trade show booth graphics, the plotters ultimately replaced photographic enlargements which were the standard at the time. While digital storage was in its infancy and CDs and DVDs were new to the market, Accent Presentations introduced a storage solution to help manage our clients’ growing digital storage archives, long before box and Dropbox were conceived.Presentation development included learning about raising money in an IPO, venture and start-up finance world leading to a significant amount of experience in the development of roadshow presentations. The company began to work with more IPO ready companies becoming a specialist in presentation development.In 2000, Accent Presentations was sold to a competitor and Artemis Design, a full service marketing and design agency got started focused exclusively on the design and development of marketing materials and presentation development. As a leader in presentation design the companies we have worked with collectively have raised over $1 billion in public financing.

Working for Qualcomm in the OmniTraks marketing department and public relations to market their product and service to the trucking industry.In 1991, I worked with the executive team to create the Initial Public Offering roadshow presentation. From this experience I was able to identify a need in the San Diego market for a local company to design and produce 35mm slides for presentations. In 1993, I left Qualcomm to pursue my entrepreneurial dream and launched Accent Presentations, a full service 35mm slide presentation and digital printing company. We were the first to offer digital color printing and large format graphics and a specialist in digital presentations as slides were replaced by on-screen shows. In 2000, the company was sold to a local competitor and I launched a creative design services company, the Artemis Design Agency.
