About Amy Westervelt

I'm the founder of the Critical Frequency podcast network, named AdWeek's 2019 Podcast Network of the Year, and of Drilled, an award-winning, multi-media climate accountability reporting project. I'm also an investigative reporter who has contributed to The Washington Post, The Guardian, NPR, and many other outlets. In 2007, I won a Folio for my feature on the potential of algae as a feedstock for biofuel. In 2015 I was awarded a Rachel Carson award for "women greening journalism", and in 2016 I won an Edward R. Murrow award for my series on the impacts of the Tesla Gigafactory in Nevada. In 2023 I was named a Covering Climate Now "Journalist of the Year." As the head of Critical Frequency, I have executive produced more than a dozen podcasts, winning the 2019 Online News Association award for "Excellence in Audio Storytelling", the 2021 and 2023 Covering Climate Now awards for best podcast, the iHeart Radio "Best Green Podcast" award, the Wilbur Award for religion reporting (for Unfinished: Short Creek, a co-production with Stitcher), and a 2022 Peabody nomination (for s2 of This Land, which we produced for Crooked Media). My book Forget Having It All: How America Messed Up Motherhood, and How to Fix It was published in November 2018 by Seal Press, and received a starred Publisher's Weekly review.
