Conducted research in the Vijay K. Kuchroo laboratory at the Ann Romney Center for Neurologic Diseases at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA. Research was under the supervision of two postdoctoral research fellows Dr. Mathias Pawlak and Dr. Norio Chihara. Work concentrated on the characterization of an animal model for neuromyelitis optica using a variety of techniques such as flow cytometry, cell tissue culture, ELISAs, PCR, and animal work. Research was funded by the Guthy Jackson Charitable Foundation for NMO.

Worked for the summer months as a laboratory technician in Cliona O'Farrelly's comparative immunology laboratory. Completed cataloging sera samples in preparation for a study being initiated into HCV in the Anti-D Cohort in Ireland. The Amgen Foundation award undergraduate students in scientific undergraduate courses research internship opportunities. Was awarded an Amgen Scholarship position in 2012 in the Karolinska Institutet Medical University in Stockholm. Worked as a research intern in Benedict Chambers' laboratory elucidating the roles between eosinophils and NK cells and their potential immunotherapeutic uses. Engaged with cell culture, magnetic sorting, chromium release cytotoxicity assays and flow cytometry.

Worked for the summer months as a lab assistant in Kate Fitzgerald’s lab in the infectious disease department of the Medical Research Centre on the University of Massachussetts Campus. Worked on two projects; a) to characterise two AT-rich cytosolic DNA sensors and b) to test for efficacy levels between recombinant GM-CSF and J558L cell supernatant as dendritic cell differentiating agents.

Tcd, Dublin 2, Ireland

Worked for three months during the summer as a lab assistant on two projects in the inflammation research group. Tested a variety of ecstasy based compounds as inflammatory stimulators on 293 TLR-2, -3 and -4 cells and helped in a TLR-9 based experiment on preterm birth. Developed key laboratory skills carrying out gel runs, assays and was completely responsible for cell lines and their survival.
