Amy Zanelli was elected to the Lehigh County Board of Commissioners in 2017 to represent District 3 and took office in January 2018. Commissioner Zanelli is a licensed real estate agent with Keller Williams, and she lives with her wife and three children in West Bethlehem. Commissioner Zanelli’s decade-long professional career in community service and advocacy includes in-home family counseling, substance abuse, parent education and mental illness. She is a graduate of Rutgers University where she earned degrees in sociology, forensic anthropology and criminology. As a child abuse investigator for the state of N.J. she worked with children and families and served as a safe space liaison for LGBTQ youth. Her leadership resonated as a CWA shop steward, and she currently uses these skills as a mentor for troubled youth in Allentown for Tabor Mentor Services and as a volunteer at Calypso Elementary in Bethlehem. Commissioner Zanelli will use her experience in community service and advocacy to address opioid addiction by developing a plan to use grant funds and existing non-profit services to create a clubhouse to support addicts in recovery. She will also back programs that assist senior citizens, protect the county’s parks and environment and will work to develop the county’s economy with jobs that pay a living wage. Commissioner Zanelli was also instrumental in bringing equal rights legislation and job protection for the LGBTQ community to Lehigh County in February of 2018. Commissioner Zanelli is a member of the Allentown Art Museum Auxiliary, an event coordinator for Lehigh Valley for All, Chair of the LC Human Services Committee, Chair of the Calypso Elementary ‘Someone Special and Me’ dance, Vice Chair of LC Development and Planning Committee, and also sits on the Administrative and HR Committee as well as Courts and Corrections Committee.
