 Manage a team of 13-14 R&D Scientists and Technicians in developing solvent-based and waterborne formulations for the automotive and industrial applications. Lead technical programs as a project leader as well as oversee all programs led by Scientists in the team to ensure on-time delivery with highest quality. Provide performance review, technical and career coaching to all direct reports. Develop strategies and technology roadmaps for the primer, direct to metal, electrocoating, and solvent-based formulation technologies.  Work closely with the Product Management team in understanding the market trends and conducting competitive benchmarking studies. Collaborate with the Regional Technical Centers in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific to transfer the R&D technologies to meet customers’ needs in specific regions. Oversee the safety aspect of laboratories by leading monthly safety audits and ensuring that safety is the first priority.

 Managed the R&D team and acted as a technical leader in new polymer compound and masterbatch product development for the flame retardant, anti-static, anti-blocking/slip applications to be used in various markets such as automotive, building and construction.  Managed the Quality Control laboratory and worked closely with Production to ensure good quality products to be delivered to the customers. Led technical support activities at all customers to achieve sale budget and expand the business. Worked closely with the Sale, Commercial, Production, Engineering, Customer Service, Purchasing and Regulatory teams in daily operations. Provided leadership, technical and career coaching to direct reports in the R&D and Quality Control laboratory. Represented PMC Polymer Products at local and national technical events by giving seminars and attending trade shows.

 Led technical support at 50+ customers to achieve sales for 4 Functional Polyolefin product lines in different markets and applications: packaging (extrusion coating/lamination, blown films, cast films), compounding (extrusion, injection molding), hot melt adhesive, construction, wires and cables.  Led technical and business development activities at 50+ leads and potential customers by promoting the products and supporting their R&D projects from product evaluation to commercialization. Achieved sales from 15 new customers in 2019. Set up budget and defined business strategies by working with the Sale and Business team  Worked closely with the Sale, Supply-Demand, Customer Service, Production and Product Regulatory teams to address the needs from customers as a technical expert within the North America team  Collaborated with the Global R&D team in France to address more challenging technical issues from customers and generate product development ideas

 Developed new Kynar® PVDF-based resins for solvent-based and waterborne coatings (in collaboration with synthesis and process technology teams) and new applications to promote to customers. One patent granted for waterborne PVDF coatings. Worked directly or through the Business, Supply Chain and Customer Service teams with 20+ customers to troubleshoot technical problems and brainstorm new developments  Led application development activities at 20+ customers by working with the R&D team in China and Japan as a technical lead  Directed research on competitive technologies and led benchmarking studies  Presented and promoted Kynar® coatings at domestic and international trade shows and conferences Led technician’s laboratory activities and mentored junior scientists

 Researched and formulated architectural coatings with different pigments, resins, surfactants, dispersants and other additives to improve the existing products and develop new product lines Led the Marquee exterior flat line for launching by working closely with the Production and Manufacturing department for successful scale-up process and resolving problems in field tests Mentored 4 junior chemists and technicians and led their laboratory activities Participated in the innovation team to write one proposal for a new product line and led fundamental research to support the proposal

 Led laboratory studies on moisture transport in commercial polylactide (PLA) and synthesized PLA by various end-groups and molecular weights  Fabricated and characterized PLA nanocomposites by melt blending and solvent casting techniques for better moisture barrier properties Discovered the relationship between morphologies, crystallization kinetics and moisture barrier properties in PLA and its derivatives Developed mathematical models for water transport mechanism in PLA
