Ana Bartolo has a background in structural engineering and is currently CEO and founder of a building design and retrofitting company. She started her professional structural engineering design activity in 1991 and she has a 35 years curriculum of developing projects for new construction and retrofitting of existing buildings including in UNESCO listed areas, working with renowned architects. Since 1987, she entered the university academic career in the area of structural engineering, reinforced concrete structures, and rehabilitation of buildings .With a PHD in Civil Engineering in 1987 she combined professional activities with academic career. She started teaching at t Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon University, later at the Catholic University of Lisbon and currently in the Master in Conservation and Rehabilitation of Built Heritage at Polytechnic Institute of Setubal. Ana has been member of the High Level Expert Group for Innovative Cities established by the European Commission DG RTD to assist in the formulation of a new, forward-looking and visionary Strategic and Research Innovation Agenda (SRIA) to enhance the innovation capacity of European Cities. She has been the Lead drafter of the chapter “Place” of the Report “The Human Centred city-Opportunities for citizens through Research and Innovation” focused on urban planning within planetary boundaries with renewables and energy efficiency at its core.She participated in the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy roundtable at the Mission Innovation Cities Convening, Malmö, May 2018. Moderator at the session “Co-creating Innovation: Scalling-up from Local to Global , for the Open Living Lab Days 2019, Thessaloniki, September 2019.Speaker on the Research and Innovation Days 2019, session, Europe’s Clean Energy Future on clean energy innovative solutions in cities shaped and developed with citizens, innovators and young professionals engagement.European Commission DG RTD acted as lead expert and author of in the Policy Review Report (P4P) for cities and act as monitor and evaluator, under the following EU Urban Agenda thematic areas: Air quality, Energy Transition, including Energy Efficient Buildings, Urban Mobility and Nature based Solutions. Ana graduated in Civil_Engineering from the University of Porto 1981, developed research at Eduardo Torroja Institute and obtained a PHD at Escuela Superior de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in 1986.
