I am passionate about translating latent human needs into actionable opportunity spaces. The core of my expertise is in understanding people - the way in which the context of society and culture shape the way people think, feel, and behave - and creating human-centered design principles and strategies that serve as a platform for building outwards into products, services, systems, and environments. In my work, I seek to bring organizations closer to their stakeholders through in-depth, research engagements that go beyond traditional research methods. I work closely with my clients to understand their organizational needs and ensure that the research is aligned with their goals and positioned to have maximum impact. I am particularly passionate about using these skills to create social and environmental impact in the world - working primarily with nonprofit organizations and foundations to help develop more effective programs and strategies that address the most pressing problems in our society today.Specialties:• Ethnographic research• Need-based opportunity mapping• Market strategy development• Product strategy development• Concept generation and definition• Project management• Innovation management• Workshop facilitation

Design Strategy ManagerWikimedia Foundation Apr 2020 - Jan 2022San Francisco, Ca, UsAs the manager of the UX team, I identified priorities and built the team to deliver impactful research to inform product strategy across 16 different product groups across Wikimedia Foundation. I developed and streamlined our research processes to enable international research and establish a culture of meeting our global communities where they are, so that we could better understand local context and needs to grow Wikimedia's presence across its 300 language communities. -
International LiaisonSeafood Legacy Jul 2014 - Apr 2019I developed the strategy for the David and Lucile Packard Foundation's program in sustainable seafood in Japan. Through rigorous research with fishermen, seafood buyers, consumers, government officials, and academics, I developed a new and specifically Japanese theory of change that reinvigorated Japanese engagement in sustainable seafood. Throughout the three year research, I cultivated and maintained a large network of domestic environmental advocates and started incubating Seafood Legacy to develop a sustainable supply chain. Now fully independent, Seafood Legacy is based in Tokyo and works with major businesses in Japan to change buying practices that shape global fishery markets and regulations. In the first few years of Seafood Legacy's growth, I stayed on as an international liaison with Seafood Legacy to support its global work and to advocate for a more culturally relevant approach to long-term ocean conservation in Asia.
