About Ana Rita Gonzalez

Dr. Gonzalez is not one to follow trends – rather, she challenges the status quo and opens doors where others see walls. Her 30+ years’ experience bring global expertise, leadership and passion to her role as CEO of Policy Wisdom. In 1986, she became the youngest, first female and first non-medical CEO of the San Juan City Hospital in Puerto Rico. She changed the service delivery model to include preventive care, improve health and reduce costs, and established the first HIV/AIDS Service in the Island. Her next mission was to serve as Hospital and Health Systems Advisor at WHO/PAHO, where she set in motion significant healthcare reform, focusing on capacity building and accountability in Latin America. In 2001, she moved to the private sector, creating the Global Public Health Policy Group at Fleishman-Hillard. Here, she demonstrated that with the right policy tools and guidance, the pharmaceutical industry can be true partners in global health. Compelled to bridge the science-policy nexus, foster engagement between public and private institutions, and harness the private sector’s capacity to advance public health, Dr. Gonzalez co-founded Policy Wisdom LLC in 2010. It is 100% focused on health policy and committed to ensuring that all voices are heard, and that public health policies are balanced and truly represent and serve the populations they intend to protect.
