Ana Sofrenovic is an award-winning film and stage actress and vocalist based in Belgrade. She began performing publicly at the age of four and received her training at the Belgrade Academy of Dramatic Arts and her vocal training from Mary Hammond the founder of the music theatre department at the Royal Academy of Music, London. She has played lead parts in some of the most significant film and theatre productions in Serbia and has appeared in several series for the BBC and ITV as well as many international film productions. Her experience in concert performance ranges from rock and jazz to music theatre and contemporary music. In 2006. she was selected for the Meredith Monk Masterclass at Carnegie hall and in 2009. she was selected as a CEC ArtsLink Fellow (New York) and performed with Meredith Monk at BAM and was in residence at the Yale Drama School. She has created several original multimedia performances in London, Belgrade and New York, collaborating with theatre directors, vocalists, dancers, musicians, actors, visual artists and composers. Her orginal performance Voices was commissioned for the 29th Belgrade Jazz Festival in 2013. and has received great reviews from international jazz critics. She has been involved in exploring the boundaries between voice and acting for most of her career. She attended workshops by artists like David Moss, Jaap Blonk, Shelley Hirsch, Joan La Barbara, John Giorno, Maria Husmann, Murton Subotnick, Tran Quang Hai, Sainko Namtchylak, Anne-Marie Blink… She also gave many vocal workshops at home and abroad and continues her work as a performer, director and educator.
