I am an academic professional specializing in the international education field. My doctoral degree is in Global Studies in Education and my research interests are in international education policy, multicultural education, diversity and equity policies, education abroad, and humanizing research through qualitative methods. I worked in Zhejiang, China for two years as Foreign College Counselor which led to my passion in international education.As an educator in the field of international education, my teaching philosophy embraces practices that increase equity and cultural competency by adopting collaborative learning methods in which students challenge themselves and each other to critically examine themselves, the material at hand, and their place in the world. I continually endeavour to raise awareness on the social disparities between, “the haves and have nots,” through instruction and institutional committees. Some of my notable courses are Multicultural Education between the U.S. and China and Identity and Difference in Education.As a practioner in the field of education I facilitated education abroad programming on global citizenship, social justice, and environmental sustainability. Through the Office of International Programs I have facilitated and instructed inbound and outbound programs from Brazil, Costa Rica, Greece, Hong Kong, and Macau. As a specialist in education abroad and advocate for diversifying education abroad programming, I am the lead Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) advisor and co-chair the UIUC DEI and Access Committee.
