As a first-generation college and law school graduate, I understand the challenges and uncertainties that come with navigating the path to a legal career. My journey began at the age of 13 when I decided to become a lawyer, but I had no idea what it would take to get there. Today, I’m the Education Equity Project Director at the ACLU Foundation of Southern California, where I’ve dedicated over 7 years advocating for racial and social justice, civil rights, and civil liberties. Born to Guatemalan immigrants and raised in Los Angeles, my commitment to equity and community runs deep. My legal career has been marked by significant achievements, including a $150M settlement in a landmark education funding case that secured resources for high-need schools across California. Recognized as California Lawyer of the Year (CLAY) by the Daily Journal, my work has always been driven by a passion for creating a more just and inclusive society. Beyond my professional work, I’ve had the privilege of mentoring the next generation of diverse legal professionals through various leadership roles. I’ve served on the boards of organizations like the Mexican American Bar Association and the UCLA Law Alumni Association, and as an advisor or mentor to pre-law programs that empower students from underrepresented backgrounds. My leadership has been acknowledged by the New Leaders Council of Los Angeles, and I was honored as Alumna of the Year by UCLA School of Law’s La Raza Latinx Law Students Association in 2019.This passion for mentorship and sharing knowledge inspired me to create Bright New Beginnings, a blog and resource hub for aspiring law students and recent law school graduates. Bright New Beginnings is designed to provide the insights, tools, and encouragement you need to navigate the law school application process, explore careers in public interest law, and build a foundation of financial wellness.Whether you’re just starting to consider a legal career or you’re already on your way, my goal is to offer you support and guidance to explore your interests, passions, and goals, particularly as they relate to law and financial wellness. Through practical advice and personal stories, I hope to empower you to make informed decisions and create a brighter future for yourself and your community.Join me on this journey by visiting Bright New Beginnings(https://www.brightnewbeginnings.blog), and let’s explore, learn, and thrive together.
