On my first day as a Cellar Worker for Chateau Thabilk in Nagambie Australia, my manager (whom I had just met) sat me in front of the tons of grapes entering the facility with a trash can full of tartaric acid and a trash can full of caustic acid. One was for taste and one was for cleaning. The Aussie began to describe the additions and I realized I could not understand a word he was saying. I had assumed I could easily understand the Australian accent, but in rural Victoria it was halfway to another language. If I would have added the wrong acid to the grapes, the winery would have lost tens of thousands of dollars.What I learned from my time with Chateau Thabilk is that to do things correctly, you need to work hard and you can't be afraid to ask questions. Also, there was no reason for those two acids to be next to each other.I have been fortunate to learn from many such experiences and the drive has always been to constantly improve and push those with you forward. Most data is noise and analytics is isolating what is valuable and displaying it a meaningful way.
