Ana is a research fellow at the ANU Crawford School of Public Policy, working on water economics and governance. In July 2020, Ana joined the Water Justice Hub as a post-doc research fellow on Porf Quentin Grafton's ARC Laureate project. The aim of the research is to improve our understanding of the relationship Indigenous Australians have with water, and recognise water’s economic, environmental and socio-cultural values held by First Peoples.Ana also holds an adjunct research fellow position at the University of Western Australia. Her broader research interests include ecological economics, international development, poverty and inequality, and surfing economics.

Key responsibilities include: - Literature review of state, national and international polices and guidelines.- Conducting personal interviews with mine closure professionals, including mining companies, consulting firms, research organizations and regulator. - Rolling out broad scale, online survey and survey data analysis.- Undertaking of in-depth case studies involving three mine sites across WA.- Development of the overarching framework for the definition of completion criteria and risk-based monitoring.+ Research associate in the project : Understanding Farm-Household Management Decision-making for Increased Productivity in the Eastern Gangetic Plains, funded by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR). The project aims to apply behavioural economics to understanding how farmers and service providers make decisions to adopt new technologies. My key responsibilities include data analysis; writing of journal articles; and communications with external stakeholders.

- Research associate at the Centre for Global Food and Resources on the project "Transforming smallholder irrigation into profitable and self-sustaining systems in southern Africa", funded by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR). The broad project goals are to improve farmer livelihoods, equity and community management in smallholder irrigation schemes in southern Africa.- My duties include: + Review household survey data regarding agricultural production, household income, gender and farming practices. + Project impact evaluation: assessment of changes in crop production and income within six smallholder irrigation communities, following a four-year agricultural development project.

+ Planning of large water supply infrastructure, including estimation of future demands and available resources; socio-economic and environmental impact assessments; cost-benefit, Net Present Value and triple-bottom-line analyses. + Participation in community-consultation processes in rural Western Australia to present potential infrastructure projects and gather feedback from stakeholders regarding social and environmental issues at local levels. + Review and re-design of a small-scale irrigation system in rural Ethiopia, as part of a corporate volunteer program. My contributions included advice on the optimization the existing system and planning for future expansions; identification of social and environmental risk.+ Planning of water supply networks (hydraulic modelling). Water and energy efficiency assessments.

+ Design of water management plans to re-use Coal Seam Gas (CGS) associated water. Calculation of risk likelihood and severity of possible overflows across a complex network of reservoirs using Monte-Carlo simulations (GoldSim software). + Design and implementation of a Multi-Criteria Analysis tool to identify strategies that would minimise environmental risks, optimise operational and capital expenditure and maximise beneficial water reuse for aquifer recharge, agricultural and industrial reuse.+ Research of the potential increase in agricultural productivity of pastures irrigated with CSG-associate water. Presentation of the results at the 2012 Irrigation Australia conference. + Review of corporate-wide policies on water, wastewater and re-used water to check for regulatory compliance. Identification of gaps and definition of policy changes. + Project management of external consultancies and review of deliverables. Representation of the water team in meetings with the Queensland Department of Environment and participation in stakeholder engagement processes with other sections of the business.

+ Planning of urban water supply infrastructure, including conveyance, storage and distribution networks+ Data analysis on production and consumption data in order to perform water balance and determine levels of nonrevenue-water, including unbilled water, apparent losses and real losses.+ Planning and execution of pressure and flow data collection surveys and project management of field operations during the monitoring program. + Definition of an innovative way to collect and analyse survey data using Google Earth, which was subsequently rolled out to other parts of the business
