Providing structural engineering services for commercial and residential projects.

Provided services for commercial and residential projects, primarily working on three major projects. Although every project was unique, the most challenging I found was the 7 storey multi-purpose commercial building with multiple basements. The work included analysis, design, detailing and preparation of structural drawings, regular site visits and quantity estimation. Here I adopted procedural standards and a working knowledge of the Indian codes in order to increase individual productivity, ensuring feasibility of the designs and timely submission of GFC drawings.

Worked on a research project titled ‘Topology optimisation of lattice telecommunication tower and performance-based design considering wind and ice loads’, later published in Elsevier: Structures (2020). The dynamic wind and ice actions were derived using Eurocode 3 and ISO 12494 respectively to form various load combinations.

While working as a Teaching Associate alongside Dr. Dhara Shah and Prof. Rupal Shah, we conducted a studio named 'Free Space Covering Steel Structures'. My key role was to guide the students on analysis, design and construction of steel structures right from its inception. Considerations were given to functionality, feasibility, optimisation and economy. I was involved in assisting 14 students in designing their individual structures using STAAD Pro and verifications by manual checks. At the end of the studio, a 1:1 prototype of the best (critically assessed) design was constructed by the students themselves.The students were made aware of the specifics they must take into account before submitting structural drawings on site. My biggest takeaways from this experience were problem solving, time management and an understanding of how to transform a collection of drawings into a real structure.

Research on “Utilization of Industrial waste in Pavement Construction”. The research predominantly focused on testing, analysis and comparisons between the mechanical properties of the waste materials with the standard requirements and then providing an adequate blend ratio in order to make the waste useable as a substitute to the local and highly expansive soils. Was involved in conducting and analysing the test results of the wastes generated from a steel manufacturing industry, identifying their mechanical properties followed by blending them with local and black cotton soil(highly expansive soil) to find its’ suitability as a soil replacer and stabilizer, respectively.The research aimed to eventually come up with a detailed standard code based on the results of the blends tested.Concomitantly I managed to publish a Research Paper titled ‘Laboratory Experimentation of Foundry Waste for Potential Utilization in Pavements’ in the ‘International Conference of Civil and Mechanical Engineering (ICCME -17), co-authored with my mentors Prof. Anal Sheth and Prof. Bhargav Tewar.
