Results: • Our team achieved a result of 3rd overall in Formula Student UK 2023, along with 1st place in engineering design.• Placed 3rd in engineering design at Formula Student Czech 2023.Body of Work:• Conducted lap time simulation studies using AVL VSM and self-made MATLAB tools for Formula Student events. Interpreted trends and identified parametric sensitivity in performance, in turn used to drive design decisions. • MF5.2 Tyre modelling using self-made tools and non-linear optimisation methods to determine fitting coefficients. Tyre models and lap time simulation models were then correlated against measured data from track laps and steady-state tests. • 4-post rig testing, followed by post-processing codes for frequency-domain analysis. Suspension damping rates were then selected using contact patch load variation as the primary metric. A parallel study was conducted towards quantifying chassis torsional stiffness. • Wrote scripts for analysis of track measured data, used to define and quantify key vehicle performance metrics on energy consumption, lap power profiles and powertrain temperatures, among others.• Redesign of suspension kinematics from direct acting to inboard front suspension, addressing structural and performance limitations.

Singapore

• Oversight for overall suspension design, manufacturing, and testing of vehicle dynamic performance.• Designed and manufactured the anti-roll bar assembly with 15% range of adjustment for vehicle balance tuning.• Developed the steering assembly using ergonomic test data and tire data to obtain the driver-preferred steering wheel position, as well as Ackermann steering geometry parameters.• Prepared worksheets on MoTec i2Pro to generate insights from on-track testing log data. Conducted data analysis to evaluate performance and diagnose critical issues such as brake system compliance, motor temperature and battery levels.• Adapted open source Assetto-Corsa car model to simulate our car’s design parameters, used for driver training and knowledge development.• Executed procurement of machined components from local and international suppliers. Utilized assembly BOMs for component tracking and cost spreadsheets for price comparisons.

Singapore

• Designed front suspension assembly components to meet structural safety, cost, and manufacturability targets, while attaining an overall weight reduction of 3%.• Implemented assembly-level FEA of front suspension assembly on ANSYS Mechanical for accurate safety and reliability insights, correlated resultant forces with calculations on Excel for model validity.• Contributed to the team’s achievement of 3rd place overall in the FSAE Michigan virtual events 2021.
