AMRUT) to improve water resilience of the town/city. - Conduction of city level water audit of the water distribution network for distribution efficiency; identification of losses, non-revenue water and demand-supply gaps.- Building capacity of women of Community Action Groups (CAG) to understand the water distribution network, efficiency, and cost implications of their informal settlements in town/city to develop a sustainable model where they take up agency and directly engage with the local authorities for adequate and appropriate services.- Analysing the impact in town’s groundwater levels due to the introduction of roof-rainwater harvesting interventions at individual household levels.- Presenting the results of the water audit to local stakeholders, including users in the community to help local municipal body members to identify gaps and challenges and suggesting potential solutions to address the town’s growing future water demand.- Taking a lead in conducting a national level workshop to showcase water resilience models with lessons learnt for small and medium cities/towns to national, state and city level authorities of Water and Sanitation to enable a systems change. -
Associate ResearcherEawag Oct 2021 - Oct 2022Switzerland'Lighthouse Initiatives in the Urban Water & Sanitation Sector'- Developed key informant interview guidelines, conducted, and transcribed key-informant interviews.- Qualitative data analysis from key informant interviews, Governance analysis to identify institutional structures andpresent landscape at National, State (Haryana, state population of 25 million) and City (Gurugram, city population of 1.5 million) level for wastewater treatment and treated water reuse.- Conducted literature review to identify and analyse central and state level policies and schemes recognising and promoting reuse of treated water. Analysis included an in-depth synthesis of existing incentives for water reuse existing under an enabling environment as well as certain limitations and conditions set by local regulatory bodies and Government for the purpose of a comparative analysis of existing policies across the different selected countries for theproject.- Through primary and secondary research, mapped on-site water reuse system initiatives across India to manage water stress faced by urban users in residential complexes. Created a directory of such residential societies using these emerging decentralized water treatment technologies for treatment and recycling of treated water for non-potable uses locally.- Engaged in discourses to share facts and learnings amongst the 5 selected country representatives.- Generated in-depth reports covering technical, social, governance, costing details for selected case studies in Haryana, India.- Co-authored a synthesis report capturing the learnings from the research and published by Eawag and available in public domain. -
Associate ResearcherEawag Sep 2020 - Aug 2021SwitzerlandSanitation Potpourri: Technocratic planning of City Wide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) in Indian Mega-cities- Generated Faecal Flow Diagram (SFD) for Chennai, India to identify proportions of treated/untreated, safe/unsafe disposal of wastewater and faecal flows in the city, using primary and secondary data.- Conducted in-depth literature review to identify all relevant WASH stakeholders at National, State (Tamil Nadu) and City (Chennai) levels and their interlinkages among each other and governance structure in decision-making.- Used ‘Gephi’ software to generate a composite network map using the principles of Social Network Analysis (SNA) to illustrate all the relevant stakeholders and their respective interlinkages in the WASH sector at National, State (Tamil Nadu) and City (Chennai) levels based on Power vs Interest dynamic of each stakeholder in the sector.- Designed the interview questionnaire and conducted key-informant interviews with selected stakeholders from state and city level authorities, international development organizations and academia.- Analysed data from key-informant interview to develop a ‘criteria catalogue’ containing the relevant criteria for selection of sanitation technology for implementation between sewered and non-sewered options, at ward level.- Generated a qualitative and quantitative Framework for aiding evidence-based approaches in technology selection (sewered/non-sewered) and decision-making at a ward level in Chennai using the criteria catalogue. - Co-authored with senior academicians of Eawag, a scientific paper capturing the above research and published by Sage Journals and available in public domain. -
