I work at the intersection of marine biodiversity conservation, science, and policy, developing solutions to global challenges such as bycatch, biodiversity loss, ecosystem alteration, and climate change. My expertise includes marine mammals, seabirds, Antarctica, Marine Protected Areas, and capacity development for conservation. Currently, I am with WCS-India's Marine Programme, focusing on reducing marine megafauna bycatch along the Indian coastline.I have extensive field experience in diverse land and seascapes across India, Canada, and Antarctica (Southern Indian Ocean and Southern Ocean). My work with the Indian Antarctic Program has involved assessing climate change impacts on its endemic charismatic and lesser-known fauna. I work on nearshore, offshore, and underwater marine species and habitats to inform their conservation and management.Trained in field techniques and laboratory skills, I collect, analyze, and interpret data on terrestrial and marine top predators. My collaboration with several national organizations (NIO, NCPOR, WII) has equipped me to design, execute, and manage major research and conservation projects. I have successfully managed teams of over 25 personnel and supervised research on endangered species recovery, spatial mapping, policy development, and community-based conservation. My experience encompasses large-scale research surveys, vessel-based and aerial monitoring, UAVs, photo-identification, bioactive assays, and molecular lab techniques. I have published research papers and popular articles in both international and national journals. As a keen naturalist, avid birdwatcher, and conservation educator, I am dedicated to science communication and capacity development in science outreach and education.I co-founded the Indian Polar Research Network and currently lead efforts to build the Indian Seabird Group, promoting scientific networking and research on seabirds.

Research BiologistWildlife Institute Of India Apr 2011 - Mar 2012InConducted action surveys of two potential sites (Shahgarh area, Rajasthan and Nauradehi Wildlife Sanctuary, MP) and two alternative sites (Jhalawar range and Darrah Wildlife Sanctuary, Rajasthan) for potential Cheetah reintroduction in India. Distance sampling was done for prey density estimation and socio-economic surveys of the villages near the sites were also conducted to assess the attitudes of people towards carnivore reintroduction. -
Research BiologistWildlife Institute Of India Dec 2009 - Mar 2011InWorked in the All India Tiger monitoring work undertaken every 4 years by Wildlife Institute of India in collaboration with National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA). Performed distance sampling for ungulates, conducted occupancy surveys for predators and camera-trapping for population estimation of large carnivores using active infra-red digital cameras (Mark-recapture framework) at four tiger landscapes (Corbett, Sundarbans, Satpura and Kaziranga Tiger Reserves). Also conducted radio-telemetry of tigers at Sundarbans Tiger Reserve using GPS/satellite collars. Analysed the data using DISTANCE, MARK, DENSITY, PRESENCE and ArcGIS software. -
Scientific Member28Th Indian Scientific Expedition To Antarctica Dec 2008 - Mar 2009Conducted experiments to understand the effect of changing environmental variables on the physiology of the Antarctic Krill at Prydz bay, East Antarctica and India Bay, Princess Astrid coast. Maintained live Krills at laboratory conditions and monitored their metabolic rates onboard. Participated in aerial surveys for marine mammals and birds around Larsemann hills and Princess Astrid coast.
