A Pires graduated in 2004 and completed her PhD degree in 2011, both in Environmental Engineering by the Faculty of Sciences and Technology/Nova University of Lisbon (NOVA FCT). Pires more than published 20 papers in international peer-review journals. She has one article incorporated in the European Commission’s environmental news service for policymakers, distributed to over 20,000 subscribers – Science for Environment Policy News Alert. She wrote books chapters and books. Pires participated in 10 projects from international funding and 4 national funding, with an evaluation panel. She won 6 prizes, highlighting the Pordata Prize won in 2016 with the indicator Urban waste management hierarchy index and ISWA Publication Award. Her research interests include methodologies on assessment and development of sustainable manufacturing systems and its consequences to the environment and society.
