Profile bio

About Ana I. Robles

I completed undergraduate training in Chemistry at University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and hold a Ph.D. degree in Cancer Biology from the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Texas, where I was a Rosalie B. Hite Pre-Doctoral Fellow. I joined the National Cancer Institute as a postdoctoral fellow where I later became a Staff Scientist and Associate Scientist. My main research focus in the intramural program was molecular epidemiology and the identification and functional characterization of lung cancer biomarkers. My studies aimed to integrate genomic, epigenetic, transcriptomic and microbiome data generated in well-characterized patient populations to improve patient stratification into risk categories to illuminate lung cancer biology and help patient management. Throughout this time, I mentored over 40 students, trainees, and postdoctoral fellows, received the NCI Director’s Innovation Award for work leveraging DNA methylation for diagnosis and prognosis of lung cancer, and numerous mentoring awards. In 2018 I became Program Director in the Office of Cancer Clinical Proteomics Research (OCCPR) of the NCI. There, I provide scientific management, leadership and oversight to large-scale proteogenomics programs, including the Clinical Proteomic Tumor Analysis Consortium (CPTAC), and the International Cancer Proteogenome Consortium (ICPC). I received the NCI Director's Award for Oversight of Programmatic Vision as part of the CPTAC Program Team. Throughout my career I have been committed to mentoring women, especially those from underrepresented and disadvantaged groups. I have served on selection committees for programs that evaluated the academic record, research experience, and commitment to a research career of candidates from populations underrepresented in science and individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. For over two decades, I personally sought opportunities to interview and recruit interns and fellows from these programs. The value of these programs in reaching out and recognizing talent, as well as the drive and excitement from these trainees cannot be overstated. For many of them, their NCI experience led them to successful careers in research and medicine. For me, mentoring these fellows has been a core feature of my identity as a mentor in science.

Listed skills include Cancer Research, Molecular Biology, Dna, Cell Biology, and 15 others.
