Leaning in and listening. Advocacy, Community.I am grateful to have worked in mental health settings in Melbourne since 2014 and have a learned and lived experience to draw from.I have worked in community newspapers in Aotearoa as a reporter and enjoyed listening, recording and respecting community voices.Journalism is a transferable skill and I am glad that in mental health advocacy, I can utilise this experience to hear story. And support issue resolution through the understanding of systemic, political issues that impact communities, families and individuals.I am learning through my wonderful colleagues the importance of research and accuracy in supporting consumers to self-advocate and support through advocacy as needed by them. I am glad for their passion.I am studying a Social Work Masters at Federation University and am again grateful as the study dovetails with the work I currently do, my awareness of social inequity and drive to support greater equality outcomes.
