Member of the Conference Committee responsible for organizing the United Nations Association - UK (UNA-UK) annual conference.UNA-UK is the UK's leading UN-associated organization that devotes itself to supporting and furthering UK action at the UN. It is a vibrant movement composed of some 20,000 people. UNA-UK is the central head of the UN movement in the UK, and is composed of 100+ local branches, such as UCLUNA.As a member of the Conference Committee, I am responsible for planning the 2021 Annual UNA-UK Policy Conference, which is set to be linked to the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26). I am responsible for planning and overseeing all aspects of the conference. I was elected to the 5-person committee following organization-wide elections.

Worked as an intern for UNOHCHR (Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights).Substantive human rights projects included:• Cooperating directly with Parliament to reform defamation laws• Preparing an anti-hate speech declaration behalf of MPs, to be issued by them in Parliament• Coordinating with expert economists in Geneva to explore the economic impact of COVID-19• Providing a translation and comments on a draft media law prior to its implementation.• Drafting official reports on issues such as LGBTI rights and the Special Tribunal for Lebanon judgment that were disseminated as official documents• Composing daily briefings + weekly analytical notes in the aftermath of the Beirut blast to Geneva HQ.• Prepared and participated in a Youth Webinar on the effects of COVID-19.• Various clerical work, including official meeting minutes for all staff meetings

Worked as a volunteer on the SHEILD projects of:• “Enhancing Prison Conditions in the South of Lebanon”• “Aiding Syrian Refugees in the South of Lebanon”Activities included:• Field visits, assessment and data collection of prison facilities for maintenance of the premises and utilities• Support to vulnerable families (single woman-headed families) to ensure they are included in the List of EntitlementBoth projects exposed me to human rights issues, such as the struggle to secure the right to a free trial for all, especially when faced with a lack of resources. I coordinated with lawyers representing Lebanese, Syrian, and Palestinian prisoners who had been denied basic legal rights, while also engaging in field work. Most importantly, I learned that justice is wider than just formal processes, and that victims have various needs.
