Working as a specialist biomedical scientist at Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, in the haematology and blood transfusion departments.

Based in the Rapid Response Laboratory serving University College London NHS Foundation Trust with rotations in haematology and coagulation departments.

Completed the IBMS Specialist Diploma in Haematology and Hospital Transfusion Science. Currently working on the shift in Haematology and Blood Transfusion.

Working towards the completion of the IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Haematology and Hospital Transfusion Science. Rotations through; Blood Transfusion, Haematology (routine/special) and Diagnostic Haemostasis departments.- Aiding in the creation of the Haematology Measurement of Uncertainty procedure and also making the spreadsheet and calculations to record data.

Rotations in 3 departments of Blood Sciences:Blood Transfusion:- Use of Bio-rad IH-1000 and associated software; starting up, running QCs, doing maintenance, loading cards/cells/reagents, troubleshooting problems.- Manual grouping / baby grouping.- Direct antiglobulin testing.- Kleihauer testing.- Antibody investigations.- Phenotype testing.Automated Biochemistry:- Using Cobas 8000 analyser and associated software; starting up, daily/weekly/monthly maintenance, running samples, troubleshooting problems, loading new lot numbers for QCs/calibrators/reagents.- Using Menarini Premier Hb9210 analyser and associated analyser for HbA1c testing; including calibration, QCs and maintenance.- Using Advanced Micro-Osmometer 3300 for osmolality testing.Haematology:- Using Beckman Coulter DxH 800 analyser and associated software; starting up, maintenance, running QCs, troubleshooting, loading reagents and updating lot numbers.- Making blood films.- Malaria testing using QBC.- Plasma Viscosity testing.- ESR testing.General things:- Health and safety audits.- Processing NEQAS samples.- Running internal quality controls.

Working in Diagnostic Haemostasis:- Use of Sysmex CS2100i analyser and associated software; starting up, loading reagents and consumables, running calibrations and QCs, troubleshooting errors and problems.- Receiving external samples and booking them into the LIMS system and subsequently reporting.- Running out of hours service at Guy's Hospital on my own.

Working in the Histocompatability and Immunogenetics department:- Analysing and HLA-typing of donor, patient and cord blood samples.
