Dr. Anastasios Sakalis studied chemistry in the department of Chemistry, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He accomplished his PhD on 2004, mainly at the Department of Analytical Chemistry, Faculty of Chemical Engineering, Pardubice University, Czech Republic, developing and optimizing a novel electrochemical method for azodyes wastewater treatment, using hyphenated chromatographic techniques (HPLC-PDA, LC-MS/MS). In a post-doctoral stage, Dr. Sakalis focused on Archaeometry as external researcher and later as a full research member of Archaeometry Laboratory, C.E.T.I. / R. C. “Athena”, Greece. Main techniques used: XRF, LC-MS/MS, XRD, Thermoluminescence dating, AAS, statistic packages. From November 2011 till September 2012, Dr. Sakalis was Senior Associate Scientist at the Chair of Pharmaceutical Technology, Institute of Pharmacy and Food Chemistry, Julius-Maximilian University of Würzburg, Germany. His research was focused on the physicochemical characterization of active pharmaceutical ingredients with special interest in the elucidation of solubility mechanisms, using several techniques such as Automated Potentiometric Titrations, LC-MS, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and Differential Scanning Calorimetry. Main scope of his research was the formulation of orally delivered drugs with improved solubility in the gastro-intestine route. He participated in the authorship of two proposals for analytical equipment funding, plus one scientific grant proposal for drug formulation strategies, all approved by the Research Ministry of the Bavarian State. Dr. Sakalis is currently working as quality control manager for the General Chemical State Laboratory, Greece, focused on laboratory instrumental control and inspection of alcoholic products, petrochemicals, fertilizers, narcotic drugs and Customs imported goods, applying mainly Gas Chromatography, spectrophotometry and Kjeldahl techniques.Dr. Sakalis speaks English fluently (advanced level) and German in B1 level.
