Dr Anastasios Stavrou has extensive experience in shaping and leading complex rock engineering designs for major Infrastructure, Mining and GeoEnergy projects, covering the whole spectrum of services throughout the project lifecycle, while acting as a bridge between various disciplines. Anastasios provides senior Technical and Commercial Leadership in rock tunnelling, shaft sinking and cavern engineering in a variety of complex rock mass conditions. He has been actively supporting and mentoring the growth and professional development of rock mechanics engineers, as well as setting the teams direction and strategy. His area of expertise covers the following:▪ GeoEnergy storage (hydrogen, natural gas, CAES, radioactive waste) ▪ Deep rock tunnels, mining shafts, roadways and large span caverns, high rock slopes▪ Geomechanical assessment of salt caverns within salt domes or bedded salt deposits ▪ Engineering geological characterisation of rock masses and development of properties suitable for design ▪ Rock Engineering designs for spalling, swelling, squeezing, creep-prone anisotropic rock masses▪ Advanced numerical analysis using state-of-the art tools (FracMan, UDEC, 3DEC, FLAC, FLAC3D, RocScience suite) ▪ Rock-support interaction analysis (short- vs long-term and temporary vs permanent) and ground support specification Anastasios has delivered guest lectures on rock engineering at universities such as Imperial College of London, the University of Leeds and the University of Newcastle, and has authored several research papers.
