In 2008 I decided to apply for a vacancy for Sales & Marketing Manager of a giant World Entertainment Company that was about to open for the first time an attraction in Portugal: Merlin Entertainments Group. I have been the chosen one from thousand of candidates. I have been told, afterwards, that it has been my ability to challenge conventional models of applying for a job that made the WOW fact for decision. When I started there was little more than a square of concrete and a container transformed into office. When I left some main achievements settled the basis for an established business. - 1.2 million euros of ROI in PR just for the lauching (June and July of 2009)- 25% more visitors than budgeted in 1rst year opening- best SEA LIFE opening ever in schools volume - a case study being shared through all Company- Advertising campaign during the launching was top of mind. It has been number 1 discussion topic in web social networks from more than two weeks.As a Sales and Marketing Manager launching an international brand in a locally based, very conservative market; a brand with an aggressive hard-sales approach, strict marketing and communication requirements and implying a completely different commitment and engagement from the Industry players that, by that time, weren't so keen on seeing the advantages of sales and marketing "joint ventures", it has been a huge challenge that gave me finally the endurance to settle in as a marketer. Coordinating a small, indeed very multitask, team of two I have gone through all the traditional marketing P's, nevertheless adding two more which accompanied me since then: "Packaging" (in the sense of being appealing) and People.That has been the key learning and from then on people have become the heart of everything I stand for.
