Research AssistantRyerson University Sep 2020 - Aug 2021Began role as an undergraduate thesis student, focusing on developing a functional immunoassay for measuring SARS-CoV-2 neutralizing antibodies. Upon graduating, I was hired full-time at the lab to continue the project. - Performed polymerase chain reaction to amplify genes of interest, followed by gel extraction and purification. - Transformed bacteria with genes to produce SARS-CoV-2 spike protein and worked with a cell line as I transfected HEK cells with genes to synthesize Human ACE-2. - Used various protein purification methods to yield pure proteins of interest from the prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.- Modified the purified proteins by attaching an engineered biotin protein using restriction enzyme modifications. - Developed an ELISA assay on 96-well plates, optimizing reagents, duration, and temperature. - Modified proteins were then implemented on an ELISA paper microfluidic system. - Work was presented at 3 conferences, winning national finalist titles. -
