In the Italian Renaissance, the idea of the polymath was allegedly expressed by Leon Battista Alberti (1404–1472), a polymath himself, in the statement that "a man can do all things if he will". Far from claiming to be a polymath (am still very much a learner), my journey sounds similar. - Starting a career in sales and marketing at 19 (allegedly to hone my people skills);- Taking a 3-year sabbatical to grow peppermint when I was 24; - Becoming a copywriter in advertising; - Starting and successfully running a publishing company with 2 consumer titles for 5 years (and spinning it off); - Starting a Public Relations firm and running it successfully for 5 years (and again spinning it off); - Giving it all up to plant a forest farm where I semi-retired and consulted NGO's and social enterprises in brand building and communications for 10 years; - And then returning to full time work by founding 2 climate action and ecosystem services startupsMy work-life may seem erratic but it has a unifying thread running through it, again summarised in this wonderful quote: “You can turn over a new leaf every hour if you choose.” - Arnold Bennett
