About Stacy Kontur Ms, Lpc

I graduated in June of 2014 with Master's of Science in Mental Health Counseling. I completed my Internship at The Salvation Army Harbor Light (SAHL) in Monroe, Michigan. During my 8 month Internship, I worked in Residential Treatment. Working in Residential Treatment gave me the opportunity to work with with individuals who were suffering from substance abuse problems as well as co-occuring disorders. Some of the clients at Harbor Light were sentenced by the court to enter treatment and others entered treatment because they wanted to receive it. In addition, I conducted various treatment groups, lectures, and worked with clients individually on a daily basis during my Internship. Also, during my internship, I found that building rapport with a client is one of the most important skills in building the relationship with the client. Without a counselor-client relationship, the client will feel uncomfortable, unable to trust, and unable to open up. Therefore, it would be difficult to help a client without an established relationship. The three most important values in building a rapport with a client is empathy, postive regard, and congruence. Since my internship, I have worked with adult outpatient clients who were receiving methadone due to their opioid addiction and inpatient clients with substance disorder/co-occurring disorders.
