As an architect, I am associated with 2-3 development teams, as a sparring partner in the team's technical design of solutions. Together with the architect team, I am responsible for the technical vision for the mobile and web applications.We strive to implement DevOps principles and believe in self-driving teams. We design systems supporting our customer solutions and adapt to their lifecycle as they evolve. Migrating smart-metering legacy system towards a hybrid cloud containerized micro-service architecture orchestrated in Kubernetes. We realize the value of adopting patterns and frameworks for implementation efficiency and redesigning interfaces and to offer deployment by Kubernetes and Azure cloud technologies. Action research: ”Effects-driven IT development” aims at developing methods for IT-development projects allowing end-users to engage in collaboration on more equal terms as a common goal or measurable effects becomes the driving motivation in the system implementation. The tools for measuring will allow the vendor (CSC) to explore the possibilities of regulating payment in commercial projects, as contract fulfillment is defined by the actual presence of effects “in situ” as the end-user is using the IT-system. Action Research conducted by an Industrial PhD with the software vendor CSC Scandihealth (CSC SCA) from 2006 to 2012. The research reports on experiments with effects in various roles, supporting information systems development of clinical solutions, in a partnership between vendor and various customers from the Danish Healthcare sector. Four experiments were performed with clients of the CSC SCA. Effects were investigated regarding; specification and organizing requirements, realization of effects in prototypes and pilot solutions, challenges to learning taking technical and organizational factors into account, staging pilot implementations, and conducting measurements supporting formative and summative evaluation of effects.The first three experiments evolved the techniques and tools for an Effect Driven IT development method (EDIT), and the fourth were a full-scale proof of concepts applying EDIT to a system development project.Results and findings document benefits and challenges facing CSC SCA and its clients using EDIT.
