Working with individuals from around the world, through the Green Fins Initiative, to assess and improve upon the environmental impacts the diving industry in Panglao has on the surrounding marine ecosystem.Outputs include:•Assessment of 18 dive centers; Environmental training for 18 dive centers, reaching 193 persons (30% female)•Collection of 45 diver observations and diver surface surveys•Development of an IEC (Information Education and Communication) strategy to enhance local governance of environmental standards within the snorkel industry•Delivery of a multi-stakeholder clean-up event at Doljo Beach, engaging over 80 persons from 15 establishments within the private, public and local community sectors to collect 1000kg (1 ton) of trash•Investigations into solutions for hazardous waste management•Collection and analysis of 47 consultations with persons from the emerging market diving industry in Panglao and Mactan, including delivery of three (3) training workshop events for emerging market members•Training of four (4) local Green Fins Ambassadors to better educate their guests and peers about environmental standards within the industry•Three (3) meetings with the Coastal Resource Management Officer and one (1) meeting with the Sanggunian Bayan for the development of better environmental, and hazardous waste, management policies•Participation in a clean-up event organized by Equation Dive Center where the Mayor was lobbied for better hazardous waste management policy and information dissemination•Collection of footage for the creation of the “How to” videos for the Operational Handbooks•Report and proposal writing skills gained through several scientific reports and business proposal presentations
