This position is for coordinating and developing the Forest Agencys cooperation with low-and middle income coutries. Currently examples are a forest sector dialogue and capacitation program with Ethiopia, a global training program for "locally controlled forest restoration" in cooperation with Sida (www.locoforest.se) and a mutual cooperation with the Secretariat for infrastructure and environment in the State of São Paulo, Brazil. The work also includes various cooperation with international organisations, like the FAO. For example Anders is in a "Working group for dry forests and agropastoralism" in the FAO. From this position AM is today again member of the Swedish FAO committee 2021 - 2022 (previously also 2015-2018, cf SLU Global below).The position is part of a small group, at the agencys unit for policy and analysis, on international cooperation, to al large extent working for the Swedish Ministry for Enterprise and Innovation in international multilateral processes and within the EU.

Anders Malmer´s research concerns tropical forests and landscapes, especially questions related to the role of trees in improving and restoring land productivity, livelihoods, ecosystem services and climate adaptation. After promotion in 2008, he was sharing duties as Professor at the SLU Department of Forest Ecology and Management and as director for SLU Global 2014 - 2018 and he used to be thematic leader for “Restoration of degraded rural landscapes” at SLU Global before that in 2012-2013. In the new position at the Swedish Forest Agency starting 2019, he is now Adjunct Professor at the same research group/department at small part time. His research group in later years includes activities in Burkina Faso, Kenya, Tanzania, Mocambique, Costa Rica and Honduras and he is actively involved in national networks (SIANI & Focali) as well as international ones (ETFRN & IUFRO). Own research and SLU Global activity also have connected to multilateral institutes like ICRAF, CIFOR and FAO as well as to bilateral dialogues and cooperation abot forest sector development between Sweden to Brazil, Indonesia and Ethiopia.

Starting January 2014 as Director for SLU Global, which is a coordinating and developing project (Agricultural Sciences for Global Development, started 2012) that aims to develop, coordinate and make more visible the research, capacity development and expertise with in SLU for cooperation with low- and middle income countries. See more at www.slu.se/slu-global SLU Global has a small office at the Vice Chancellors office in Uppsala and four connected thematic research leaders (Anders was one of the four 2012-2013). Anders' Directorship is at 70 % of fulltime and spent in Uppsala. The other 30 % is still devoted to the professorship based in Umea, but as flexibility calls both duties were handeled continously from both locations. During the time at SLU Global AM was a member of the Swedish FAO Committee 2015 - 2018.
