My teaching at Lund University and elsewhere has covered many areas within film studies, and I believe that they fairly well reflect the many and varied aspects of cinema that interest me, also in research. Some inspiring courses I have regularly taught are Swedish Film, Film and Digital Media, Film Studies for Teachers, and Culture and History in European Cinema.When it comes to research there are a number of areas that I am particularly interested in at the moment. I find it fascinating to see how different films travel and reach audiences, both on a national and on an international market – and for this reason programming, marketing materials and box office are among the things I look at. Another area concerns narration, screenwriting and various kinds of adaptation – with an ambition to understand, at least a bit better, how stories and creativity adapt to production and social contexts. This relates to a third area that has interested me a long time, film genres and popular cinema and questions regarding what films become highly successful. Here I mainly look at today’s European cinema - in particular I study the top films of each national box office in Europe during recent decades. Among a variety of areas I look at cultural and historical memory. More recently, I have started working on television, fan culture and creativity, especially remix videos on YouTube.Being founder and primary editor of Journal of Scandinavian Cinema (Intellect), first published in 2010, I have put much work into this project. The ambition has been to make this journal a forum that will inspire not only film scholars interested in Scandinavian cinema, but also invite others – from other countries and disciplines – to engage with the research of film and Scandinavian film culture. On that same note, since 2014 I have organized the Lübeck Film Studies Colloquium, as a forum to discuss Scandinavian film and television with Nordic and German (and other) colleagues.
