Mussel Polymers Inc develops adhesives that bind strongly in wet and moist environments. Based on the work of Professor Jon Wilker of Purdue University, our biomemetic adhesives are nontoxic and effective in a broad array of applications. MPI was spun out of Purdue University by Wardenclyffe Ventures LLC.

Wardenclyffe Chemicals Inc. works with inventors, entrepreneurs, university professors and technology transfer offices to take inventions from the laboratory to the marketplace. Our approach is efficient and produces results. 1. Our team rapidly assesses if there is a match with our expertise and a market for the technology. 2. We then meet with the inventor/tech team and evaluate the stage of technology development to determine what resources are necessary to develop prototypes for industry testing. 3. At this point we may option the technology and conduct a much deeper technology and market assessment generally lasting 3-6 months. 4. Finally we will license the technology, develop our business plan, assemble our team and finance the venture. Our investors are seasoned tech savvy entrepreneurs. Over the past two years we have evaluated hundred of technologies, met with approximately 20 technology teams, optioned three technologies, and launched one venture (solar technology). We are currently evaluating a drug-device combination product, innovative adhesives, two IoT devices, and are developing two of our own service ventures. We are not interested in early stage drug discovery or invasive medical devices. Disruptive technologies with prototypes and strong IP positions are of particular interest. Conducted independent, original basic research in the field of cellular biology.► Conceived, planned and executed original cell biology research in the laboratory of Dr. Ira Mellman, Chairman of Cell Biology at Yale.► Initiated and managed key strategic collaborations with research laboratories at Yale and other universities. ► Research yielded several peer-reviewed research papers (see “Publications”).

My first laboratory research project was in the Laboratory of Gary Thomas at the Vollum Institute (Oregon Health and Science University). This project was to characterize the novel anti-viral agent “Alpha1-PDX.”► Led research project to demonstrate that #1-PDX was an effective anti-viral agent under experimental conditions.► Published our results in the Journal of Biological Chemistry and used the publication data as a foundation for a patent. (See “Selected Publications” and “Patent.”)► Collaborated with Gary Thomas and others to launch a start-up biotechnology company with seed funding from ICOS.► Served as a scientific consultant and co-founder of Hedral Therapeutics.► Led a group of technicians to implement a strategy to purify #1-PDX for research.

I served as a member of a team of students and faculty responsible for the operation of a TRIGA Mark I nuclear reactor at the Reed Reactor Facility at Reed College.► Passed Nuclear Regulatory Commission-administered written and oral exams on nuclear physics and reactor operations.► Ran the nuclear reactor during research operations while supervising trainees.► Inspected and maintained the reactor and reactor facility.
