As part of a major ship upgrade program the project task was development, installation and commissioning of command and control systems for six ships. A technical project challenge was to replace the main part of the existing command and control system with a modern system of the latest system generation but to keep an important and critical part of the old existing system, to be controlled by the new system through a new interface developed by the project.Customer on-the-job-participants were present in the project for two years which offered an interesting cultural exchange as well as a challenge of balancing the customer involvement in the project with a restricted access to company information and system information.My tasks as a system integration manager were to manage all system integration activities, including: - Planning and managing the construction of several reference sites. - Planning and coordinating the development of simulators for use at reference sites. - Planning and coordinating HW deliveries to the reference sites. - Planning and coordinating the deliveries of SW releases from several subprojects to system integration (including one subproject located in Australia). - Planning and managing the usage of all reference sites (for activities such as system integration, component development testing, user manual production, bug correction testing and verification, integration testing, system acceptance testing and training on-the-job-participants from the customer). - Administrating and coordinating bug reports, debugging activities and evaluation of reported errors.- Planning and coordinating correction releases from all subprojects. - Coordinating testing and verification of solved issues in the system. - Coordinating and managing simulator deliveries to the customer training facility.
