Senior Manager, Opportunities, Strategy & Development
In this role, I am responsible for strategic business development informed by effective organisational collaboration in support of greater social impact. I lead three direct reports and a wider team of 12 to produce compelling tender and grant funding submissions underpinned by effective processes. Building relationships with expert stakeholders, I negotiate contributions to support service model development and new service implementation.
Opportunities Lead
As Opportunities Lead, I was accountable for proactive and responsive oversight of new and renewing business opportunities. Leading a team of six to produce effective tender and grant funding submissions, I developed and implemented mechanisms and tools to support efficient, effective processes, monitoring and reporting. I also worked to build business development capacity organisationally, engaging and managing stakeholders to ensure collaborative input from key operational, lived experience and corporate support functions. I was accountable for 57 submissions and proposals, with a success rate of 46%, delivering more than $83 million in contracted funding.
Project Coordinator
I was responsible for producing high-quality tender and grant submissions. I established project teams composed of subject matter experts to generate expert and effective content, which I synthesised into compelling responses tailored to funder requirements. Drawing on my strong work ethic, project planning abilities and stakeholder engagement skills, I ensured all timelines were met. I produced 17 submissions in 13 months, delivering $13 million in contracted funding.
Publishing Project Manager
In this role, I was responsible for planning and resourcing the Lonely Planet guidebook publishing list (300+ titles). Simultaneously managed multiple projects at various stages of production, using my abilities to communicate, prioritise, analyse and adapt to ensure adherence to agreed budgets and schedules. I provided strong leadership to five direct reports, managing performance and development, and working collaboratively to achieve strategic aims.
Senior Editor – Freelance
I managed a team of approx. 60 freelance editors to produce Lonely Planet's guidebook publishing list. My responsibilities spanned recruitment, training, performance management, quality control and process development. I had strong project management accountabilities through scheduling all external editorial resources across the guidebook publishing team and ensuring outcomes were delivered to agreed budgets. An essential component of this role was ensuring the editorial standards were delivered across the guidebook publishing list, which I accomplished through regular training, writing clear documentation, providing ongoing feedback, and analysing projects for and implementing proactive solutions to address potential areas for improvment.
Editor
I managed the end-to-end production process for guidebook titles, delivering 100% of projects to agreed scope, budget and timeframe. My responsibilities included the assessing manuscript quality and tone, copyediting, map and index editing, and liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
Project Editor, Editor
I worked as a Project Editor and was promoted to an Editor role a year later. I assessed suitability of content for audience and adherence to brief; completed all phases of editing from structural editing, to line-by-line copyediting, to proofreading laid-out pages; commissioned and approved designs, artwork and illustrations; and developed and edited marketing collateral. The roles also allowed me to capitalise on my project-management skills to deliver projects to budget and on schedule, including producing a quarterly magazine for lower-primary students, producing and customising health textbooks for more than 100 schools, and leading a digitisation project to produce an online dictionary.
