Principal Research ScientistCreated and implemented a corporate-wide survey of employees utilizing standard indices of employee engagement, performance, etc., information that can be used in developing predictive models of attrition risk, team health and other aspects of the employee experience. After 2 quarters, the index for attrition risk had an 85% success rate in identifying employees at risk for leaving the company. Transformed this data into a product used by HRBPs to identify employees at-risk for attrition, and to highlight the mitigation strategies likely to keep employees in place.

Notable Projects - Navy Bureau of Medicine / US Special Forces -Hired to work with Navy Seals, developing and validating a diagnostic tool for assessing resilience, neurobehavioral status, targeting PTSD and other combat stress syndromes. Administered this instrument pre-deployment to Seals onsite at the base, and post-deployment in the EU upon their return from Afghanistan. Multivariate analyses identified characteristics of personnel exhibiting the highest degree of resilience. In a transition from Public Health, I was hired by Tacoma Power under time pressure from WA State’s Clean Energy Initiative (I-937) which required utilities to verify energy efficiency savings. I was hired to put in place a research & evaluation program. First 6 months: Negotiated with stakeholders and wrote a formal evaluation plan putting program metrics into place which defined program impact, met deadline and verified that TP’s energy savings were 45% above that mandated. My portfolio-wide process evaluation resulted in streamlined operations for the 25 efficiency programs, increasing cost-effectiveness and reducing the $35M biennial budget. During my time at Tacoma, I initiated 5 new research studies (indoor air quality, hot water usage profiles, RBSA oversample, etc.) supporting the Integrated Resource Plan and better informing 20 year energy forecasts.Publication: “Sample Sizes in Research & Evaluation: The Use and Abuse of the Coefficient of Variation”.
